What is Code 39?
A widely-used barcode format capable of encoding uppercase letters, digits, and a handful of symbols (- . space $ / + %). It's self-checking (readable in either direction) and supported by essentially every barcode scanner, making it a safe general-purpose choice.
Why can't I use lowercase letters or other symbols?
Code 39 only defines patterns for uppercase A-Z, digits 0-9, and the symbols - . $ / + % and space - any lowercase input is automatically uppercased, and unsupported characters will show an error.
Can I print this and use it commercially (e.g. retail barcodes)?
Code 39 barcodes print fine for internal use, asset tracking, or ID badges. For retail products, you'll typically need a UPC/EAN barcode with an officially registered number instead - this tool doesn't generate those.
